When you’re moving into a new home, you want to make sure the infrastructure is up-to-par. Shouldn’t you make sure the technology in your house is updated, as well? We at Pacific Audio & Communications offer technology surveys for homebuyers and real estate agents throughout Hawaii to ensure that you are able to make the most of the systems in your new home as soon as you move in. We not only help you identify what technology exists in the house but also how old it is, what its remaining life expectancy is and what’s still serviceable. After all, if the house you’re moving into has technologies are years if not decades old, you might not be able to get replacement parts should anything need to be fixed. We’ll help you identify any potential issues and also provide a roadmap and recommendations for how to get the technology in the home up-to-date.


To create personalized technology solutions for you, we need to know as much as we can about you. All of our projects begin with a thorough needs analysis. After asking a variety of questions to ascertain your needs and performance expectations, we’ll advise you on the products and solutions that make the most sense for your lifestyle or business. We’ll cover your space room-by-room, in many cases doing a physical walk-through, to better understand how you use each room and the ways you could integrate technology for added comfort and efficiency.

System Documentation

Once we’ve undergone that original needs analysis we’ll document it to include your specific budget qualifications and performance expectations. The initial design proposal outlines the subsystems you want to include in your Honolulu, HI home in an easy-to-follow room by room format. We go in-depth to outline the features and functionality for each room when it comes to lighting, audio, video and networking. For example, we’ll document which rooms should have Wi-Fi coverage and the different shading models you may want to include in each. After presenting the project specification, we’ll integrate any of your feedback before proceeding to the project design.

Design & Engineering

We take the approved project specifications and interpret them with exacting detail to match all of the capabilities and functionality you expect. At this stage we’ll outline hardware model numbers and prices as well as all the labor needed to execute the job. Backed with Computed Aided Design (CAD) technology and project drawings, our engineering team crafts a comprehensive plan for all technicians and trade partners to follow. These include vital information on low-voltage wiring, looping and grouping of lighting loads, engineering schematics, rack elevations and keypad specifications.


No project is complete without the programming and system configuration needed to create a platform that brings all your technology together. Reliable programming serves as a universal language between your lighting control systems, audio, video, security and more. Each one of our programmers brings their technical expertise to create an effortless control experience via touch screens, keypads, remotes and smart devices. Every job is unique so we will tailor your system interfaces to match your project’s capabilities and desired functionality.

Performance Calibration

Expert calibration is required to achieve the full potential of your AV equipment. We follow an established process using state-of-the-art microphones and measuring tools to find the ideal speaker setup and layout for the room. Our solutions result in better imaging, a more accurate soundstage and fuller bass response. Relying on expert certifications, our technicians will also optimize your video performance by adjusting balance, contrast and sharpness to match your room requirements as well as your desired application and functionality.

System Monitoring

System Monitoring is available upon request, equipment and subscriptions for that equipment may be required depending on your specific needs and will be billed according to our regular service rates (minus travel time). Our technicians can actively monitor all your network and IP-connected devices from a remote connection. From a centralized performance dashboard they can immediately gauge the status of all your devices. They will see a real-time update on lighting, climate, security and AV components and know immediately if there are issues that need to be resolved. Just as important, they’ll automatically download any new software upgrades or patches. As part of your smart home system monitoring, we’ll also conduct regular network performance tests since latency is often a cause for performance issues.


We offer world-class service for all our projects in the form of ongoing maintenance and support to resolve any issues quickly and efficiently. All technology experiences some wear and tear so we constantly fine-tune your system to ensure it meets all your performance and functionality standards. We offer service plans tailored to your project which include 24/7 remote system management, tech support, priority response time and yearly on-site tech reviews. We’ll also serve as your technology advisor and let you know when we hear of new technology that may enhance your system performance.

Pacific Audio & Communications, Inc. (PAC) has been in Hawaii since 1991. Our company’s headquarters is on Maui and is headed by Phil (Pres.) and Pat (V.P.) Mulligan. Offices are located on Maui, Oahu, the Big Island & Kauai. Please see our web site for more information.


PAC designs, engineers, installs, programs and maintains the following electronic systems; custom audio and video, controls integration, digital telephone, lighting control, networking (LAN), structured wiring (phone, cable, network) security, video surveillance and other related technologies.


  • Initial meeting/consultation: Complimentary
  • Budgetary Proposal w/system Allowances: Complimentary
  • Provide System Design Proposal: Fees apply Based on size of systems and number of systems to be integrated and the level of work requested. Design Fees are non-refundable.
  • Additional consultation, engineering, installation and service labor: $150.00 per hour
  • Programming labor (All Systems): $200.00 per hour
  • E-waste Disposal Fee: $50-$100 per device
  • Service calls: Initial Service call, (1-hour min.) will be $200. Additional hours will be at $150/hour. All rates are per technician – per man hour.==

After Hours & Emergencies

  • Weekend, After Hour Service requests are considered Emergency Response: Emergency is defined as an URGENT request outside of our normal business hours, observed Holidays OR outside of scheduled service (A Technician is pulled away from a scheduled jobsite to respond to the call). .Minimum charge of $500 and applies for the first hour (including travel time), additional time is billed at $285/hour. Emergency Response is based on Technician availability.
  • Emergency Request during our regular business hours (7:30am to 3:30pm): This service is based on Technician availability outside of scheduled service (A Technician is pulled away from a scheduled jobsite to respond to the call). The minimum charge is $500 and applies for the first hour (including travel time), additional time is billed at $285/hour. Emergency Response is based on Technician availability.


When on the job for time and material work it is common for us to get phone calls related to another job. Any time taken away from a job for this reason will be removed from the total time for that customer or job. Customers will not be charged for a technician’s time while on a service call for them if the technician is dealing with another customer’s job on the phone.


Customers who do not have an account with PAC will be required to provide a credit card to hold their appointment, a credit card authorization form will be provided. At the end of the service work performed, Customer may pay by check and/or credit card. We accept VISA, MC and Amex. All account customers will be billed with payment due net. 30 days.

Customer Provided Equipment

Unless special arrangements are made during contract negotiation, all jobs where the customer has elected to provide their own equipment will be charged at the weekend hourly rate. We select equipment specifically for its suitability for a particular job and the features it has that enable us to set up and program the system for optimum operation. It is common for customers to provide their own equipment that don’t have the features we require to make the system work properly. Subsequently we spend additional, unplanned, time and effort to make systems work properly. PAC will not warranty or service any equipment that it does not sell.
