Lead Technician

Position Overview

This position is the senior field technician on assigned projects. The Lead Technician works in conjunction and directs installation crews in the completion of sophisticated residential and/or commercial technology systems including, but not limited to, distributed video and audio systems, private theaters, media rooms, lighting, shading, environmental controls, as well as wired/wireless network and video services infrastructure. They are responsible for the quality and timely completion of assigned field work from rough-in through client delivery, and for the daily procedures, paperwork, and documentation associated with their projects. This position is also responsible for assigned vehicle care and maintenance, and for mentoring and developing the technicians assigned to their crew.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Full understanding of the rough-in, trim and finish phases of a project, including proper use of all associated tools and jobsite safety standards.
  • Break down each project scope into a practical order of operations and a working day-to-day plan for the crew, and adjust that plan as site conditions change to keep the crew productive.
  • Install, set up, and configure networking systems.
  • Familiarity in single-room and multi-room advanced systems (Crestron/Control4/Lutron).
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of integrated systems
  • Install and program security and surveillance systems, and support system design.
  • Perform final quality checks and client walkthroughs prior to project sign-off, and provide end-user training on completed systems.
  • Coordinate daily on-site work with the Project Manager, general contractors, and other trades to keep PAC scope on schedule.
  • Coordinate with PAC programmers, IT specialists, and other internal support staff when a project calls for their involvement.
  • Identify and report any out-of-scope field work requests to the Project Manager to ensure they are properly documented and billed as change orders.
  • Keep assigned vehicle stock organized and replenished, and record materials used and materials returned per PAC inventory procedures.
  • Maintain project documentation, Monday, field notes, and End of Day (EOD) reports; upload all programming and client files to the shop server per PAC policy.
  • Train, mentor, and direct Technicians in the field; assign tasks in a way that grows each technician's skills, and model PAC standards for workmanship, safety, and client conduct.
  • Follow job-site safety practices and use the personal protective equipment appropriate to each task.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years' field experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for conversations with clients, general contractors, project managers, and the technician team, and the ability to produce clear written records of project work.
  • Ability to read and understand technical specifications and blueprints.
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; self-motivated, task driven, and able to apply “best practices” theory.
  • Highly detailed, organized, and multitask driven; a strong work ethic and an ability to perform well under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to work a rotating “on-call” service schedule.
  • Competent skills with desktop and mobile computing.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check.
  • Able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach, and climb ladders for extended periods; able to work in attics, crawl spaces, and active construction environments; able to lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
