PAC Hawai’i announces expanded resources on the Big Island of Hawai’i

Hawai’i based electronics systems integration firm Pacific Audio & Communications Inc.(PAC Hawai’i)  is proud to announce that King Integration and its employees have joined the PAC Hawai’i team. This provides additional capacity required for anticipated business growth for the Big Island and Hawai’i Nui.

What Cables Should You Use for Your Home Audio Distribution?

What Cables Should You Use for Your Home Audio Distribution?
• Have Access to Your Favorite Music in Every Corner of Your Home• Optimize the Audio Signals Within Your Kauai, Hawaii Space• Work With a Professional for a Discreet Wiring Installation

What is a Home Audio Distribution System?

A home audio distribution system lets you transfer audio signals from source components –a turntable, media library or CD player – to speakers throughout your house. When installing your system in Kauai, Hawaii, it’s not enough to find the best speakers and A/V receivers. You need to make sure your audio signals travel efficiently through the right cable solution.

What Kind of Cables Should You Use?
In most cases, your audio signals will go through one of the following cables: analog, HDMI or Ethernet. Below we take a look at features from all three to see what the best fit is for you.
  • Why Use Analog Cables?
    • Analog cables provide the purest sound from a turntable or CD player since the signal is never translated into digital form when it goes from the source to your receiver.
    • How to judge the quality of an analog cable
      • While all cables may look the same, slight variations in material and craftsmanship can make a huge difference.
        • Usually you want a copper conductor, double shielding and high-pressure connectors for the least signal interference.
      • Why Use HDMI Cables?
        • An HDMI cable can carry audio, video, and even internet signals.
        • When it comes to a home theater system, HDMI is the best way to get full surround sound, offering up to eight different soundtrack channels to create three-dimensional audio within the room.
        • A challenge for HDMI is that it is always evolving. This means the latest HDMI technology may not be compatible with older gear.
      • Why Use Ethernet Cables?
        • Ethernet cables can transmit signals in a multi-room system with limited interference. The CAT-6 line also lets you send signals back, meaning it can take a signal from your television receiver and transfer it back to your A/V receiver or speaker. This way any audio generated within your TV can be played on another system.
        • Ethernet connections are also common for wireless speaker systems like SONOS. We also connect your sources –music library or laptop—to a network router to boost the signal.
      • What is the best cable for a multi-room system?
        • Picking the right gauge: The longer your cable needs to travel within your home audio distribution system, the thicker you want it to be. The thicker a wire, the lower its gauge. Most installations will require a gauge between 12 and 14.
        • Wiring behind walls: To reduce the risk of overheating, fire or interference, you want to use CL2 or CL3 wires for in-wall installations.
      • Why should I work with a professional for my home audio distribution?
        • Figuring out what cables are right for you is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Your solution may require a variety of cables depending on your source components, type of speakers and the size of your home.
          • Will you also need to transmit video signals?
          • Will you want all wiring hidden behind walls?
          • Are you incorporating wireless speakers?
        • We ensure cables are compatible with your technology. Choosing incompatible cables will not only result in lower-quality audio, but it can also damage your system.
        • As licensed low-voltage contractors, we can find the perfect path from your A/V receivers or matrix switchers all the way to the speaker of your choice. All wiring remains hidden behind walls to reduce clutter.

Why Invest in High-End Audio?

Why Invest in High-End Audio?
  • Get the Best Sound Quality
  • Enjoy Music the Way It’s Meant to Be Heard
  • Gain Peace of Mind

The Benefits of Getting a Professional System for Home Audio Distribution

Home audio distribution technology has come a long way in recent years, making it easier than ever to enjoy pure, high-quality music in your own home. With the influx of so many “off the shelf” audio systems that you can pick up at your local Oahu electronics store, the question for audiophiles in Hawaii is usually whether a professional system is worth it. The short answer is “Yes.” For the long answer, keep reading.

The Difference in Sound Quality

Have you ever gone to a concert or symphony to enjoy your favorite music, then listened to a recording of the audio at a later time? It probably didn’t sound quite as good. There are a lot of reasons why this loss in quality happens:
  • Equipment: A lot of research and innovation goes into the materials and style of sound equipment.
    • Material: The rigidity of the materials used in speakers affects how sound reverberates, which in turn affects sound quality. Some high-end manufacturers even use materials like Kevlar and diamond in their speakers to produce better sound.
    • Style: The size, shape, and depth of speakers all have an impact on sound reverberations. Top manufacturers utilize an extensive quality assurance process to ensure there are no workmanship flaws in the speakers that could cause dead spots, muffled sound, or other issues.

  • File Format: MP3s and similar audio files are typically compressed to allow for small storage size and easy streaming. Unfortunately, these file formats use a “lossy” compression that sacrifices quality for size. To improve sound quality, listen to MQA-encoded DSD or FLAC files, which use a lossless compression style. The file sizes are larger, but the increase in quality is more than worth it.
  • Acoustics: It’s hard to beat the acoustics of a concert hall, but a common mistake that people make when installing audio systems is to ignore the acoustics in the room. A professional audio installation ensures that you have the right sound equipment in the right locations to make your music sing out with clear, pure sound.

The Professional Touch

  • Peace of Mind: High-end audio systems are about more than just sound quality. They’re also about reliability. With a professional installation for home audio distribution, you gain the peace of mind that comes with knowing it will be done right the first time and will be set up to last over time.
  • Ease of Use: Tired of fumbling around with different remotes for different speakers or stereos? With home audio distribution, you get one remote that controls every aspect of your sound system. Using your smartphone, you can select a song or playlist from your favorite streaming service, then choose whichever room you want it to play in.

Happy Clients

Happy Clients

Another happy client, this one from our Kauai office, Mr Gary Henderson.

It is a real pleasure to recommend the services of Pacific Audio and Communication. They just installed a Home Theater System in our Large Room and a beautiful, fully controllable, dispersed audio (music) system throughout our house. Alex designed the system(s) and Chris did the installation. Both are real \"pros\" - knowledgeable, great sense of what the client needs are, meticulous in their work, and lightening fast in responding to questions/concerns.
I am an Apple \"addict\", a bit concrete in my thinking, like designs that are minimal/clean, modern, and don\'t like to be oversold on things I don\'t really need (am I a customer from hell?). Well, I was completely won over by Pacific Audio! They patiently educated me on the state-of-the-art AV technology, worked with me through multiple design changes, installed everything with minimal disruption (e.g., ceiling speakers in every room, but did not require a bit of touch-up painting or clean-up), and their \"tech support\" rivals Apple (I\'m not kidding).
My last request of them? Could you please move my new (BIG) flat-screen TV down a bit (4 inches!!!). Their response? \"No problem\" and was done the next day (even though it took two people because it is really big and heavy).
I can give you many more examples of \"beyond my expectations\", but just let me conclude with -
I heartily recommend Pacific Audio & Communications, enthusiastically, and without any reservations Gary Henderson
