Learn What a Technology Integrator Can Do for Your Winery

Energy management is becoming an essential component of a business’s strategy. For some, it’s about reducing costs. For others, it’s about minimizing their carbon footprint. For many, it’s a combination of increasing profits and caring for the Earth and future generations. At Pacific Audio & Communications, we’re uniquely positioned as an energy management consultant and electronic systems integrator to help companies achieve their energy goals.

We not only help businesses come up with an energy management plan but also install and implement the system. An example of this integrated approach can be found at the Del Dotto Winery, our clients in Napa Valley, CA, and a project that won the CEDIA Award for Best Innovative System.

Let’s look at the possibilities and how to reduce your energy load.

The Del Dotto Winery

This beautiful winery required a dynamic, intuitive, centralized control and monitoring platform for all its systems. We used a Crestron control system with a custom user interface to interact with all their systems, controlling energy and water usage.

Crestron lighting, climate, and environmental control systems are designed to reduce energy consumption. For instance, automated lights, temperature, and shades work together and adjust based on the occupancy in a room. In addition, an energy management system implements daylight harvesting and automated dimming during peak energy-demand periods and offers solutions for tracking real-time energy usage.

At the Napa Valley Winery, the system provides reports on energy use and production so that the owners can track the real-time costs of operations. Extensive climate control included public and private spaces and the wine cave. We custom-designed a highly efficient hydronic loop heating and cooling system that controls the temperature in the wine cave and the tasting room. This system also integrates with the third-party TankNet winemaker applications, a fermentation management solution.

Interior and exterior lighting control included the touring caves, tasting rooms, kitchen and dining area, landscape path and tree lighting, patio and parking lot lighting, and spaces for event functions. All lighting was Title 24 compliant, a California energy code designed to reduce unnecessary energy consumption.

PAC also programmed lighting scenes triggered by occupancy, time, and personal interaction. In addition, water conservation was implemented in their garden and vineyard irrigation system, using weather monitoring to control watering schedules.

Security and audio-video solutions were also integrated enhancements.

Alternative Energy Sources

Our clients’ energy management needs vary dramatically based on the type of business. Many adopt onsite renewable energy sources and storage that include solar panels, batteries, and generators. These systems monitor and control all circuits, optimizing energy usage during critical peak periods and enabling business owners to make adjustments. They create a microgrid that ensures clean, reliable power and continued operations despite power grid failures or power outages.

At PAC, we’re committed to helping wineries and other companies run better. Wineries offer a unique setting, requiring an extensive energy management system. PAC is here to help.
